AI Insights is an Admin dashboard that gives you a comprehensive view of how Box AI is being used across your organization. Use it to understand who is using Box AI, how AI Units are being consumed, which products and capabilities are driving usage, and where governance or optimization actions are needed. The dashboard brings together usage cards and charts that help you answer questions such as:
  • Who is using Box AI, and how much AI activity is happening?
  • How many AI Units have been consumed this month, and how does that compare to my allocated quota?
  • Which users and agents are driving the most AI Units consumption?
  • Which Box products and AI capabilities are being used most?
  • Is AI adoption growing across active users and agents over time?

Accessing AI Insights

To open the dashboard, go to the Admin Console, then select Home > AI Insights. You must be an Admin or a Co-admin with the Run new reports and access existing reports permission enabled to view the AI Insights dashboard. Some cards and actions require additional permissions, as noted in the sections below.
The cards and charts that appear on your dashboard depend on your Box plan and your Box AI entitlements. AI Units cards and reporting require an active Box AI Units entitlement. For more information, see our pricing page.

Working with the dashboard

Most charts on the dashboard share a consistent set of controls.
  • Filter: Charts that support filtering include a Filter () button that opens a side panel where you can adjust the date range and, where applicable, which data series to display. Date range options vary by chart and can include Last 30 days, Last 60 days, Last 90 days, and a custom range.
  • Data exploration: Charts that support data exploration let you expand a details list beneath the chart to review the underlying activity.
  • Download Report: Where a card or chart maps to a downloadable report, a Download Report () action generates the corresponding report in the Box Reports folder. You can apply filters before downloading to customize the report data.

AI Units

The AI Units card shows the total number of AI Units consumed within the current calendar month, measured against your allocated monthly quota. Use it to monitor consumption against your entitlement at a glance and to spot when you are approaching your limit. An AI Unit is a standardized way to measure consumption of paid Box AI capabilities, including Q&A, Text Generation, Metadata Extraction, Enhanced Metadata Extraction, and Box Agents. For a full explanation of how AI Units work, entitlements by plan, and what happens as you approach your limit, see Understanding AI Units in Box. From this card you can:
  • Enable Box AI features or purchase AI units through the available call to action.
  • Download the AI Units report for the current month’s consumption. To download historical consumption with additional filters, run the AI Units report from the Reports page.

Total AI Activity

The Total AI Activity card shows the combined volume of AI activity across your organization during the current calendar month, along with the trend over the past month. This includes both user-driven AI queries and chargeable AI API calls, giving you a single view of overall Box AI adoption regardless of how AI is invoked.

AI Queries

The AI Queries chart is a time series (line) chart that shows the number of AI query events across your organization over time. Use it to track AI activity trends and identify periods of higher or lower usage.

Filtering AI queries data

The Filter button opens a side panel where you can select the date range. You can select:
  • Last 30 days
  • Last 60 days
  • Last 90 days

Exploring AI queries data

Expand the data exploration table to review individual AI query events. The table includes the following columns:
  • User: the user who made the AI query.
  • Activity: the AI query activity performed.
  • Affected: the content affected by the activity.
  • Date: the date the activity occurred.

Active AI Users

The Active AI Users card shows the number of distinct users who made at least one AI query during the current calendar month, along with the month-over-month trend. Use it to measure how broadly Box AI is being adopted across your organization, beyond raw activity volume.

Enabled AI Agents

The Enabled AI Agents card shows the count of AI agents that are currently in an enabled state, including agents that have been enabled for select users. Use it to understand how many agents are active and available to your users. The Manage AI Agents action opens agent management, where you can review and configure agents. This action is available only to Co-admins who have AI Studio permissions. For more information, see Enabling Box AI Studio and managing agents.

Top AI Users

The Top AI Users chart is a horizontal stacked bar chart that ranks the top 5–10 users by total AI Units consumed over the selected time period. Each user’s bar is broken down by AI capability so you can see which capabilities are driving an individual’s consumption. The capabilities shown are:
  • Q&A
  • Text Generation
  • Metadata Extraction
  • Enhanced Metadata Extraction
  • Box Agents
Use this chart to identify heavy users and to inform governance or optimization decisions.
