Box Automate streamlines business processes through automated workflows. This guide describes how administrators and co-admins enable, govern, and delegate workflow management across the enterprise.

Managing Box Automate access

To manage Box Automate for end users, an admin must configure enablement settings in the Admin Console.

Configuring Box Automate

Under User Access:
  • Enable for all users
  • Disable for all
  • Enable for some users
  • Disable for some users
Disabling Box Automate at the enterprise level immediately pauses all active workflows. Use caution when modifying global enablement settings.
The setting in the Admin Console under Content & Sharing labeled Prevent collaborators from moving or copying content to a folder where they have a higher permission level does not apply to actions performed by Box Automate workflow executions.
  • Click Save to apply changes.

Governance and security considerations

Administrators can maintain oversight of automated workflows to help meet security and compliance standards.

Access and approval controls

  • User access management: Use allowlist settings in Enterprise Settings so only authorized personnel or specific departments can build automations.

Monitoring enterprise activity

After permissions are granted, co-admins can open the Automate tab to monitor the status of all enterprise workflows.
