# Uninstalling Box Sync Manually

Before uninstalling Box Sync, please quit the application by clicking the Box Sync icon in your system tray (Windows) or menu bar (macOS).  Then click **Quit**.

  To delete the content contained in the Box Sync folder, first verify that your files have been synced.  To do this, look for the blue check mark adjacent to the folder or file name.  Then follow the instructions, below.

## Mac

1. Uninstall Box Sync:
   1. Quit Box Sync.  To do this, click the Box Sync icon in your menu bar.  Then click **Quit**.
   2. Open your **System Preferences** > **Extensions** > **Finder** and clear the **Box Sync Finder Extension**.
   3. Delete **Box Sync.app** from your **Applications** folder.
2. Locate your Box Sync folder and delete it **only** if all of the content is synced up to Box.
   * The default location is /Users/USERNAME/Box Sync
3. Delete the remaining Box Sync components
   * Delete the following items if they exist:
     * /Users/USERNAME/Library/Logs/Box/Box Sync/
     * /Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Box/Box Sync/
     * /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.box.sync.bootstrapper
     * /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.box.sync.iconhelper
   * Delete the Box Sync password items in your Keychain:
     1. Open **Keychain Access** from **Applications** > **Utilities**.
     2. On the top left, below **Default Keychains**, click **login.**
     3. Select the **Passwords** tab, and then enter "box" in the search bar.
     4. Right-click on any **Box Sync** items in the list of results, and then click **Delete "Box Sync"**.

## Windows

1. Uninstall Box Sync from [Control Panel > Programs and Features](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028054/windows-repair-or-remove-programs-in-windows-10)
2. Delete the remaining Box Sync folders:
   * C:\Users\USERNAME\Box Sync
     * Do **not** delete your Box Sync folder if it contains content that is not synced up to Box.
     * If you do not want to delete the old Box Sync folder you can rename it (for example, to "Box Sync Old") to break the association between Box Sync and your Box.com account. This avoids any confusion when installing a new instance of Box Sync.
   * C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Box Sync
