# Classification Modification Permissions

Classification modification permissions define what user roles among your enterprise users can change classification labels on files and folders. (External users are not allowed to change classification labels.) There are 4 choices for classification modification permissions:

* Owner
* Owner and Co-owner
* Owner, Co-owner, and Editor (default)
* Owner, Co-owner, Editor, and Viewer Uploader

## To Change Classification Modification Permissions

1. In the Admin Console, click **Classification**.
2. Click the **Classification Settings** tab.
3. In the Modification Permissions section, select a set of user roles. See the [Modification Permissions section](/en/box-shield/shield-classification-labels-and-policies/classification-settings#modification-permissions) in the [Classification Settings](/en/box-shield/shield-classification-labels-and-policies/classification-settings) topic for more information.
4. Click **Save**.

To allow only Admins and Co-Admins to modify classification labels on files and folders, toggle off **Allow additional user roles to modify classifications**.
