# File Transfer: How Can I Preserve Original Created/Modified Times?

<div className="article_labels_list" style={{display: 'none'}} dangerouslySetInnerHTML={{__html: "Overview , FTP , Uploads and Downloads , Article , Box Web Application , Established , Secure"}} />

Box's FTPS and SFTP options support the ability to preserve files' original **created** and **modified** date/timestamps during file transfers to Box. These timestamps are visible on Box to satisfy compliance or regulatory requirements. See [Understanding Box File Timestamps](/en/box-fundamentals/for-users/staying-organized/organizing-and-tracking-content/understanding-box-file-timestamps)

**IMPORTANT:** Most FTPS or SFTP clients support the ability to send a file's original modified timestamp during a transfer, however, most **DO NOT** support the ability to send both the original modified AND created date/time during a transfer. Consult with your FTPS or SFTP client's support team to confirm the available capabilities.

For general information about Box's FTPS service, see our [Using Box With FTPS](/en/box-fundamentals/for-users/uploads-and-downloads/uploading-and-downloading-files-and-folders-to-box/using-box-with-ftps) article.

For general information about Box's SFTP service, see our [Using Box with SFTP](/en/box-fundamentals/for-users/uploads-and-downloads/uploading-and-downloading-files-and-folders-to-box/using-box-with-sftp) article.
