# Classification Report

The Classification report contains information about the classification of the content in your Box account. You must define [filters for the Classification report](#classification-report-filters) before you can run it.

## Classification report details

* **File format**: comma-separated value (.csv) file
* **Filename format**: `shield_classification_run_on_YYYY-MM-DD-HH-MM-SS_Page_#.csv`
* **Folder name format** (each report run is placed in its own folder): `Shield Classification run on YYYY-MM-DD HH-MM-SS`
* **Filename and folder name time zone**: the local [date and time](/en/box-admin-tools/reporting-and-insights/dates-and-times-in-report-data) of the admin who ran the report or who set up the report [schedule](/en/box-admin-tools/reporting-and-insights/scheduling-reports)

### Classification report data columns

This section describes the data columns that are generated in Classification reports.

      <td>Item Name</td>
      <td>The name given to the file or folder.</td>
    </tr>

    <tr>
      <td>Item ID</td>
      <td>A number the uniquely identifies the file or folder.</td>
    </tr>

    <tr>
      <td>Item Path</td>
      <td>(<em>Path</em> in the Classification Report dialog box.) The path to the file or folder from the root of your Box instance.</td>
    </tr>

      <td>Item Type</td>

      <td>
        <p>The type of item. Values in this field can be:</p>

      <td>The fully qualified URL of the file or folder.</td>
    </tr>

      <td>Classification Name</td>

      <td>
        <p>The name of the classification applied to the file or folder.</p>
        <p>If the file or folder does not have a classification, the field is empty.</p>
      </td>
    </tr>

    <tr>
      <td>Classification Applied Reason</td>

      <td>
        <p>The method used to apply the classification label to the file. Note that this will be empty for files without classification labels. </p>
        <p>Any classification not applied via <strong>Shield MIP</strong> or <strong>AutoClassification</strong> will display as manually classified. This includes files that inherited classification labels from a parent folder.</p>
        <p>Files auto-classified before October 2025 will have an <strong>AutoClassification</strong> value. Files classified after October 2025 show more specific auto-classification policy types (e.g. <strong>Data Type AutoClassification</strong>).</p>

      <td>(<em>Owner Name</em> in the Classification Report dialog box.) The value in the <em>Name</em> field in User Account Details of the owner of the item.</td>

      <td>(<em>Owner Login</em> in the Classification Report dialog box.) The value in the <em>Email</em> field in User Account Details of the owner of the item.</td>
    </tr>

      <td>Item Author Name</td>
      <td>(<em>Created by Name</em> in the Classification Report dialog box.) The value in the <em>Name</em> field in User Account Details of the user who created the folder or who uploaded the file.</td>
    </tr>

      <td>Item Author Login</td>
      <td>(<em>Created by Login</em> in the Classification Report dialog box.) The value in the <em>Email</em> field in User Account Details of the user who created the folder or who uploaded the file.</td>

      <td>With External Collaborator</td>

      <td>
        <p>Whether the file or folder has any external collaborators. Values in this field are one of:</p>

      <td>Shared Link URL</td>

        <p>If the file or folder has a shared link, the value (URL) of the shared link.</p>
        <p>If the file or folder does not have a shared link, the field is empty.</p>

      <td>Shared Link Permissions</td>

      <td>
        <p>If the file or folder has a shared link, the shared link permission. Values in this field are one of:</p>

        <ul>

        <p>If the file or folder does not have a shared link, the field is empty.</p>

  Classification report filters
</h3>

This section describes the filters that you can configure to run Classification reports.

        <p>Select which items will be included in the report, from:</p>

      <td>Classification Name</td>

      <td>
        <p>Select one or more of the classifications you have defined in your organization to limit the report to only files and folders with the selected classification. Select <em>No Classification</em> if you want the report to include files and folders that have no classification applied.</p>
        <p>The default selection is all classification names as well as <em>No Classification</em>., and at least one item (classification name or <em>No Classification</em>) must be selected.</p>

      <td>Optional. Enter one or more managed user names to limit the report to only files and folders owned by the listed user(s).</td>
