# Enabling folder-level metadata and cascade

<div className="article_labels_list" style={{display: 'none'}} dangerouslySetInnerHTML={{__html: "has_image , Admin , Article , New , Product Utilization , Instruction"}} />

Box enables you to allow your account holders to add metadata instances to a folder, and automatically cascade them to the folder's contents. Using cascading metadata, your account holders can quickly add metadata to multiple files and sub-folders at one time.

Enabling cascading metadata also allows your account holders to resolve metadata instance conflicts by either retaining or overwriting current attribute values.

**To enable cascading folder-level metadata for your enterprise:**

1. From your admin console, go to **Enterprise Settings** > **Content and Sharing** tab.
2. Scroll down to the **Cascading Folder Level Metadata** section.
3. Click **Configure** and select the option you want, then click **Save**. See the [Cascading Folder Level Metadata](/en/box-admin-tools/box-admin-reference/enterprise-settings-content-sharing-tab) section in [Enterprise Settings: Content & Sharing Tab](/en/box-admin-tools/box-admin-reference/enterprise-settings-content-sharing-tab) for details.
4. Click **Save**.
